Your Keto/Carnivore Story

I have struggled with idiopathic hypogonadism in the past, and I also own a commercial dairy farm in Ontario that I’m trying to transition into a regenerative farm. You can check out our farm’s website at www.moraleats.com

We raise grass-fed beef and pastured turkeys, and I have done a lot of research on regenerative farming practices. The animals are metabolically healthier on a grass-fed diet. They have less glycation end products, less oxidative stress, and less proteolysis. Not surprisingly, that translates into healthier meat. The meat is higher in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin E, antioxidants, and phytochemicals.

Regeneratively raised grass-fed meats have measurable levels of plant nutrients, but also nutrients from fungi and bacteria that originate from healthy soil. Don’t get me wrong, grain-finished meat is still a superfood, but if you’re only eating one thing, getting the healthiest meat is extra important.

As a commercial farmer for years, I realize that regenerative agriculture may be a key to feeding the world. As regenerative farming practices are proven to be better and ultimately more efficient, they will find more widespread adoption.

Before coming to carnivore, I tried a vegan diet for years and continued to get more food sensitivities as time went on. I tried fasting, cold exposure, and improving my sleep. All good, but I’ve never felt better than I do now at 34, eating mostly grass fed red meat.

What is the best (or top 3) pieces of advice you could give someone starting their keto/carnivore health journey?

Some people like myself might have to slowly ease into eating more fat. I always struggled to digest fatty foods, but I adapted over time. Fruit helped me ease into it.

Raw dairy is way easier to digest. I can’t digest pasteurized dairy

All red meat is a superfood, but regeneratively raised grass-fed beef does have some nutritional benefits over grain-finished beef. The animals are healthier, and that translates into higher quality meat.
